Behaviour and design of high strength steel homogeneous and hybrid welded I-section beams

The behaviour and design of high strength steel (HSS) beams are addressed in the present study. Six in-plane three-point bending tests on three different welded I-sections ? two homogeneous S690 one hybrid I-section with flanges an S355 web, were first conducted. beam carried out major axis a bespoke restraint system was designed employed test programme to prevent lateral-torsional buckling. Following experimental investigation, thorough finite element (FE) modelling performed, which included validation study confirming accuracy developed FE models replicating flexural HSS beams, parametric generating additional data over broader range cross-sectional slendernesses, grades loading configurations. results obtained collected from literature, together generated study, used evaluate suitability current Eurocode 3 cross-section slenderness limits for bending.
